ORAMICS TO ELECTRONICA, 'TIL 31st DEC

Arts & Culture

Charting the development of electronic music from its humble bleep-bleep beginnings in back garden sheds to the essential wop-wop of mainstream dubstep today, this Science Museum exhibition celebrates the make-do-and-mend ingenuity of computer generated sound from 1950 to the last Grimes single.

The show highlights the work of three pioneering British studios alongside iconic instruments, home-built synthesizers and one-off inventions.  Reminiscent of Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters, there’s even a sound-drawing Oramics Machine.

At the Science Museum ’til 31st December. Free.

LONDON BRIDGE OPEN KITCHEN

Wednesday 15th May

We always knew the young community around Bermondsey Street had the potential to foster some great dining, but never did we imagine it would propagate a world class foodie scene, and certainly not one that continues to grow at an explosive, exponential rate.  But here we are, not just a handful of good places to eat, but a whole bag of top restaurants on our doorstep, artisan producers, markets and suppliers.

On May 15th, Team London Bridge are bringing together some of these neighbourhood favourites for an evening festival in the White Cube’s courtyard.  We’ll be serving up some tasters alongside Pizzaro, Platterfom, Brigade and Constancia with Cave looking after drinks.

6pm to 9pm, tickets £15 including 5 tasting plates

LITTLE BIG DETAILS

Reading Material

It’s a celebration of pedantry, an unabashed appreciation of the impact of minutiae.

Little Big Details largely focuses on the small moments of humanity in the digital world – Facebook’s language option for ‘English – Pirate’, Bandcamp’s option to play Defender with your stats, how the lamps on Blom and Blom light up when you hover over them… Heaven.

LICHTENSTEIN, A RETROSPECTIVE, 'TIL 27th MAY

Arts & Culture

After a few tenuous, lightweight shows of late, the Tate Modern has pulled together over 125 definitive works for the first full-scale exhibition of American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein in 20 years.

Best known for comic strip and advertising imagery, brightly coloured with hand painted Benday dots, Lichtenstein’s media-taunting dry wit could probably comfortably rival some  of Sacha Baron Cohen’s finest characters, but without subjecting us to endless mankinis.

£14 – booking recommended, ’til 27th May, Tate Modern SE1

SPRING NEGRONI

SECRET RECIPES

A lighter variation on one of the most enduring classic aperitifs. We age ours for 3 weeks in oak barrels, but if you can’t wait (or more to the point, don’t have a barrel at home) it’s still pretty excellent to drink right away.

25ml Beefeater gin
25ml Lillet Blanc
25ml Aperol
2 dashes grapefruit bitters

Build over cubed ice in a rocks glass, give it a quick stir and garnish with grapefruit zest.
