The Little Room
Just because you can’t make it out to that lovely country house, doesn’t mean country house can’t come to you. Private dining for up to 14, sharing menus for every occasion and all those mod-con meeting facilities neatly hidden away.
As a new introduction to the Village drinks repertoire, Jiri has rigged up one of our usual beer fonts with a keg of cocktail. Changing weekly with whatever’s in season, or whatever takes our fancy. We’ve been experimenting with a couple of gin-based variations to start – cucumber and thyme, strawberry and basil. Totally herbaceous.

ART DECO ARCHITECTURE
When the extremes of ornate Victorian architecture and the stark modernity new city life collide, here we have Art Deco. This blog collects all the building examples it can find, as engineer’s drawings, photos, books and vintage postcards and shows how the functionality of new found urbanity unites everything from post offices to apartment blocks.
One of the most complete collections of the finest, and often beautifully faded, Art Deco from around the world.
Though there are a couple of amusement parks featured, ‘playground’ is interpreted loosely in this curation of the ghostly and lonely from around the world. What’s a nice touch from many such collections are the detailed back stories which turn these relics into historical archives, with house prices, legends of ghosts and untimely deaths.
LOUIS KAHN, THE POWER OF ARCHITECTURE
Monumental beyond modernist. Louis Kahn’s distinctive style of heavy buildings didn’t hide their weight, materials or assembly in his back-to-basics approach to designing dramatic buildings. Inspired by the ancient buildings of Italy, Greece and Egypt, he created monolithic beauty and powerful universal symbolism. He also got around a bit – fellowships and awards coming out of his ears and three kids by three different women.
This Design Museum exhibition is an expansive collections of his works with models, drawings, photographs, films and interviews in one of the most complete retrospective of Kahn’s career.

20ml soya sauce
25ml peanut oil
1 tsp tomato ketchup
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 clove garlic
1 thumb-sized piece ginger
Tabasco to taste
salt & pepper
Finely chop the ginger and the garlic, mix with the ingredients except the oil. Whisk until smooth and then whisk in the oil to emulsify the vinaigrette.
Season and add a few drops of Tabasco to taste.
